高さ1～3mになる低木で、種によって落葉性か常緑性かが異なる。 葉は互生で長楕円披針形、長さ2～15cm。 花は長さ3～15cmの総状花序で、1個は鐘形、長さ4～20mm、白色または時にピンク色です。
